- Once the vessel arrives, we will clear your shipment with customs and obtain a release for your cargo.

- As soon as available, we send a truck with a delivery order to the port for container drayage (delivering your container).

Port of Houston Questions
Answered by Diana Stinson
1. Can I pick my stuff up from the port?
I have been asked this many times and unfortunately, the answer is no. You must be in the Lynx system as a registered driver. You must have a TWIC card, Transportation Worker Identification Card. And on top of that, you must have a valid dock receipt / pickup order. And we are not finished, PPE must be worn and vehicle registered with proper insurance.
2. Can I truck my container and what is drayage?
Good question, I tell people all the time this is just container trucking to and from the port. You can truck a container if you have an Intermodal Chassis and a way to load. Although, you may not truck it to the port.
3. How do I track my container?
Very important question, I can tell you the Port of Houston uses the Lynx Customer Portal for tracking information concerning status and dates.
4. My cargo has arrived, when will it be delivered?
I tell everyone the same. A full container load will be available 48 hours after arrival. LCL Shipments can take up to 7 days before the container is unloaded and cargo is available for delivery.
5. How do I do business with the Port of Houston?
Yes, I love this question. You want to find and participate in the Small Business Program by registering on Workday.
6. What if my container gets flagged for inspection?
I am sorry this has happened to you. I dislike telling people this as it costs them time and money. You will be notified about the inspection when the ship arrives. The inspection can take anywhere from 3 days to 60 days depending on type of inspection. There’s document inspection, visual inspection and unload cargo inspection. This will also determine the cost of the inspection. If that wasn’t enough, there’s 5 free days of storage after arrives. After that, per diem and storage will be charged until cleared and picked up. There will be storage from both, the carrier and World Trade Distribution at an estimated rate of $10 to $20 per cbm (cubic meter).
